Diagnostic stewardship is a relatively less familiar concept to the veterinary practitioner even though it is a critical component in designing, implementing, and sustaining antimicrobial stewardships programs in veterinary care facilities.

This article focusses on how qPCR enables judicious antimicrobial use through rapid detection of select AMR genes at the veterinary POC.

In this study, we assessed the MiQLab test for detection of subpopulations of AMR pathogens inmixed veterinary samples and compared it to Culture and Sensitivity Testing (C&ST) as well as indepth antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) considered gold standards for veterinary diagnostics.
